Carson Clay Calhoun 200 hour Teacher Training, Feb 2020

Horizon is proud to host internationally acclaimed yogi Carson Clay Calhoun in our studio to teach our 200hr Teacher Certification. A self-described “Handstand-Up Comedian,” Carson combines his love for being upside-down with his natural ability to make people laugh. During his workshops, trainings, online coaching, and yoga retreats, students are encouraged to push their limits and explore their edge, while maintaining a playful attitude.

Horizon Hot Yoga’s teacher training with Carson promises to be intense and inspirational, as we focus on asana, pranayam, meditation, Vinyasa yoga, movement, strength, grace, and discipline. These topics will be wrapped up in Carson’s fun-loving teaching style.

About Carson

Carson began practicing yoga in 2010. He did his first 200hr teacher training in 2011 at Little River Yoga and has since studied Ashtanga Yoga with David B. Keil. He also loves teaching Rocket Yoga. As a movement enthusiast, Carson incorporates a variety of disciplines into his yoga classes, which focus on building a strong mind and body. Check out Carson’s webpage to learn more about him. (

The Logistics

The training is February 4 – March 3, 2020 at Horizon Hot Yoga. It will be held Monday through Friday 10 am – 7 pm (with a break for lunch) and Saturday 1 – 5. There will be no class on Feb. 14 or 15. If you need flexibility on scheduling, no problem. We understand that kids need to be picked up, work emergencies can happen, etc. Carson asks that you make up the hours in Horizon classes as you are able in order to reach the 200 hour certification.

Carson brings a special talent and style that will keep teacher trainers fully engaged during the training and equip them to be ready to confidently and competently teach to their communities after completing this training. Training will be focused on, and not limited to, the following topics:

* 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga
* Rocket Yoga
* Yamas and Niyamas (applied yoga philosophy)
* Daily posture breakdowns
* Ashtanga Vinyasa concepts – breath, bandha, drishti, primary series, secondary series, Rocket Yoga
* Other styles of yoga: Baptiste, Vinyasa Flow, Core Power, and more
* Mantras and chanting
* Class sequencing
* Qualities of a yoga teacher and business of yoga
* Yoga massage
* Yoga Nidra – yogic sleep

On Saturdays, students will enjoy workshop-style training with Carson in the following areas, all conducted with with Carson’s signature dose of humor. 🙂

* First Saturday – Yoga for Dummies: Basics for anyone and everyone; the only stupid question is the one not asked!
* Second Saturday – Level 1 Upside Down: inversions, handstands, and arm balancing
* Third Saturday – Level 2 Upside Dow

* Morning meditation

* Morning Ashtanga Vinyasa

* Anatomical hands on training (learning to assist and correct)
* Teaching practice (small group, large group, hands-on assists/corrections)
* Afternoon class (various formats – Ashtanga Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow, Rocket)

The Karma Project

Participants will be taking a class weekly to Frisco ISD schools. This is a wonderful benefit to the kids and an opportunity for everyone to practice teaching and assisting in a class.

The Recreation

Every Sunday, we will be hosting a field trip (completely optional) for anyone wanting to participate. Here are the areas we will visit: The Dallas Arboretum – a huge and beautiful outdoor garden always chock full of seasonal color and interesting arrangements

National Video Game Museum and a meal at Nerdvana, a restaurant, bar, and coffee shop where you can play vintage video gamesFrisco Fresh Market (a large farmers market with veggies, food, and interesting wares), a meal at the fabulous 811 restaurant, and a walk of downtown Frisco

In addition to field trips, you can participate in the fun of the Frisco area when not in training. Here are some interesting places to visit that are not far from Horizon Hot Yoga.

Legacy Hall brings new meaning to the dining and drinking experience to Plano, Texas. Equal parts premium food hall, live entertainment destination, beer garden, and craft brewery.

Shops at Legacy and Legacy West shopping centers

Shops at Legacy and Legacy West are curated shopping and dining at their finest. Beautiful stores and unique eating experiences make for a great adventure, or just stroll around and enjoy the windowshopping.

Stonebriar Center

Stonebriar Centre has 150 stores and 40 restaurants. It is one of the best malls in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and has something for everyone, including a movie theater!
