If you’re wondering why your backbending practice is painful or uncomfortable, this workshop will transform how you approach it by making it accessible and even pleasant to bend backwards with no fear. As teachers, we struggled to find the proper techniques to get students to safely work on their backbend practice. By trying several methods over the years, we have gathered the most effective techniques in this workshop series to create a balance between strength, stability and flexibility so backbending feels more natural and energizing in your body. Out of all the yoga asanas, backbending is the most useful to live a long, healthy, pain-free life as well as open your heart to become more fearless in life.
Each of these three workshops is designed with specific techniques to safely reach the peak pose and simultaneously complement each other to open different parts of your body. You will learn how to backbend by lengthening your spine, learning proper muscle engagement and opening your front body in a supportive manner, building your confidence to deepen your backbending practice on your own.

As an experienced yoga practitioner, Julia Lee currently teaches Advanced Vinyasa Techniques at Horizon Hot Yoga in Frisco. Her yoga journey, initially as a means to get back in shape after giving birth, has transformed her physical body and her outlook in life. Julia leads classes to help develop strength and confidence in her students to reach advanced asanas on the mat which directly creates resilience and equanimity off the mat. Chelsea Griffin is a 500 YRT yoga teacher at Gaia Flow Yoga. Trained as a dancer, while the physical aspect of yoga drew her in, it helped her reconnect with herself through a rough time in her life.
